Get back to the feminine you with labiaplasty. Are you embarrassed by large or misshapen vaginal lips, or do you find it uncomfortable to wear certain types of clothing due to chafing? Some women are born with larger labia, or vaginal lips, while others notice changes in their appearance due to puberty, aging or childbirth, and are dissatisfied with their large and/or drooping appearance. Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that addresses these issues by reducing or reshaping the inner or outer labia.

Are You a Good Candidate for Labiaplasty?
The best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for labiaplasty is to meet with you in a one-on-one consultation. However, here are some general guidelines that describe a good labiaplasty candidate:
- At least 18 years of age
- In good physical health
- Has large or uneven vaginal lips due to puberty, aging or genetics
- Has enlarged or stretched vaginal lips due to childbirth or weight loss
- Is self-conscious about the appearance of their vagina
- Experiences discomfort from wearing tight clothes that chafe the vaginal lips
The Labiaplasty Procedure
During a labiaplasty procedure, the surgeon will first put you under a deep sedation ot general anesthesia. the surgeon will then trim excess skin and tissue from the inner or outer labia, closing the incisions with dissolvable sutures when finished. Ask your surgeon which approach is best for you but in the majority of cases, our surgeons will recommend a posterior wedge approach will give an excellent cosmetic result while preserving the sensation in the labia. Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure that usually takes less than an hour to perform. You will need someone to drive you home after surgery and stay with you for the first 24 hours.
What to Expect During Recovery
For the first few days after surgery, you will have some bruising and swelling in the vaginal area. Any discomfort can be alleviated by taking the pain medication prescribed by your surgeon. Patients may also experience a numbing sensation in the vaginal area, which usually lasts for a couple of weeks, though it may be up to several months for some patients.
Your surgeon will schedule a follow-up appointment with you to check that you are healing properly. You should be p and about but avoid repetitive exercise such as an elpticval machine or running for the first few weeks , and avoid heavy lifting or overexertion, which could strain your vaginal area. Most patients can return to work after the first few days, and from sexual intercourse for at least four to six weeks.
Complementary Procedures
If you are interested in labiaplasty, you may also want to consider combining the procedure with one or more of these complementary procedures for enhancing the look and/or feel of your vaginal area:
- Pubic-area rejuvenation, which removes saggy skin and excess fat
- Vaginal rejuvenation, which tightens the vagina and surrounding tissues
- Hoodectomy, which eliminates excess skin in the area around the clitoris. This is often performed together with the labiaplasty, especially when the posterior wedge approach is used.
- Lipoinfiltration of the outer labia, which involves injections of your own fat for a fuller, plumper, more youthful external vaginal appearance
Labiaplasty, hoodectomies and lipoinfiltration can also be performed as one component of our ever-popular mommy makeover, a combination procedure that provides a more comprehensive full body rejuvenation following pregnancy and childbirth.

Labiaplasty and Other Female Cosmetic Surgery FAQs
Here are answers to some questions that our doctors are commonly asked about labiaplasty and other genital cosmetic surgeries performed at BECA.
After having three children, I am very self-conscious about the way my vaginal lips look. How can I fix this problem?
After childbirth the labia often become elongated, and as a result are often torn and misshapen. A labiaplasty fixes this problem by reducing the size of the labia by removing excess skin and fat and repairing any defects caused by trauma to the labia.
Will having labiaplasty affect my sensitivity during sexual intercourse?
Most patients who’ve had labiaplasty have no problems with sensitivity during sexual intercourse; in fact, they often see an improvement in their sexual function, as they no longer have excess skin on their labia to interfere or cause problems during intercourse, especially when combined with a hoodectomy.
Does the labiaplasty procedure hurt?
During the procedure, you will be put under general anesthesia so that you will feel no pain. After surgery, you may experience some discomfort, which can be alleviated with the pain medication prescribed by your surgeon.
Will I have scars from labiaplasty?
Yes, but they will be hidden in the natural creases of your skin and will fade over time until they are barely, if at all, noticeable.
What’s the difference between labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation?
Labiaplasty reduces the size of the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and/or the labia majora (outer vaginal lips). A vaginal rejuvenation procedure (or vaginoplasty) reshapes the vaginal opening by removing excess vaginal tissue in the lining of the vagina and tightening the surrounding tissues and muscles.
Will my sexual satisfaction increase after having vaginal rejuvenation?
That is our goal! The goal of a vaginal rejuvenation procedure is to reduce the size of the vaginal opening and repair the supportive tissues, which increases friction and creates more sexual pleasure for both partners during vaginal intercourse.
I have a bulge of fat above my pubic area. Is there a procedure to get rid of it?
Yes. A pubic-area rejuvenation procedure can remove excess fat over the pubic bone using liposuction. This procedure is performed for women who feel self-conscious about the puffy or bulging appearance of their pubic mound, which is sometimes noticeable while wearing a bathing suit or tight clothing. Sometimes this is combined with a procedure to elevate the skin of the Mons Pubis similar to a mini-tummy tuck.
How will having a hoodectomy affect my orgasms?
A hoodectomy removes excess tissue that overlies (or “hoods”) the clitoris, exposing a larger surface of the clitoral node. The result of this procedure is that a woman will experience greater sensation to her clitoris during sexual intercourse, with the hopes of allowing her to achieve a faster, stronger climax.
