Why Have Labiaplasty?
Many women are concerned about how their vaginal area looks. Others experience physical or emotional discomfort as a result of large or elongated labia minora (inner labia). In fact, there are numerous reasons a woman may choose to undergo labiaplasty, or labial reduction, at BECA Centers.
In some women, the inner vagina labia/lips, or labia minora, are overly prominent, extending past the outer labia. In others, large labia minora, technically referred to as labial hypertrophy, can develop during puberty or after childbirth. Often times, though, this is just the way we develop.
Trauma to the labia minora can alter their shape, and childbirth can sometimes even tear them. Many women also seek the services of the talented surgeons at the BECA Centers to revise the results of a previous labiaplasty procedure they are not happy with.
Here are some of the many additional reasons women opt to have labiaplasty at BECA Centers:
- Boost self-confidence
- Improve the shape and/or overall aesthetics of the labia
- Eliminate physical discomfort during intercourse and exercise
- Look and feel more beautiful in bikinis, yoga pants, and other tight clothes
- As one component of vaginal rejuvenation surgery
- Reduce the size of the labia
- Improve self-confidence in front your partner
- Reverse the adverse aesthetic effects of childbirth
- Enhance sexual satisfaction
At the BECA Center, our surgeons perform labiaplasty procedures for women from all areas of Georgia, as well as other areas of the United States and around the world.
Are You a Candidate for Labiaplasty?
If you are 18 years of age or older and in good health, but are unsatisfied with the appearance of your enlarged or misshapen labia, you are most likely a great candidate for labiaplasty! Many women choose to have labiaplasty to alleviate the discomfort they experience when exercising, having intercourse or just wearing tight clothing.
During your private consultation, your surgeon will take the time to ask about your motivation for having labiaplasty as well as your concerns so we can best tailor the right procedure to your exact needs. The surgeon will also explain the procedure in detail and answer any questions you may have. It is important that you tell your surgeon about any medical conditions or medications you are taking, so that the BECA Center can make sure you are safe during and after surgery.
The surgeon will use this information and other information gleaned during your consultation to devise a comprehensive treatment plan that takes into account your health and overall wellness and satisfies your unique physical and aesthetic needs. By creating a customized treatment plan for you, the BECA Center ensures that you get the results you deserve.
Our Special Technique
At the BECA Centers, our surgeons perform vaginal procedures using state-of-the-art methods to improve not just the appearance but also any functional issues affecting the inner or outer labia as well as the vaginal opening.
Our surgeons perform labiaplasty using a unique method that preserves sensation in the labia minora. Less experienced surgeons often “trim” the labia and leave it at that. This can lead to strangely shaped labia or the appearance that the labia minor have just been removed. Other unsophisticated techniques may lead to a loss of sensation, or pain during intercourse.
In contrast, the surgeons of BECA Centers approach labiaplasty from both an aesthetic and functional point of view whereby sensation and overall appearance are both considered. Their use of highly technical procedures using small flaps to reduce the size of the labia minora allows them to improve the overall appearance of the labia while preserving sensation all while avoiding the issue of pain in the long term. The most frequently used technique is the posterior wedge procedure with or without a hoodectomy, depending on the individual patient’s anatomy.
Recovering from Labiaplasty
You may experience mild discomfort and swelling for the first few weeks after labia reduction surgery. Most patients are prepared to return to work and non-strenuous work after a few days. It is important that you avoid strenuous or repetitive exercise, intercourse and impact sports for approximately six weeks.
If you are interested in labiaplasty, you may also want to consider combining the procedure with one or more complementary procedures. Here are a few procedures to consider:
- Pubic-area rejuvenation, which removes saggy skin and excess fat
- Vaginal rejuvenation, which tightens the vagina and surrounding tissues
- Hoodectomy, which eliminates excess skin in the area around the clitoris. This may enhance sexual satisfaction and orgasms in women that have excess skin overlying the clitoris.
- Lipoinfiltration of the outer labia, which involves injections of your own fat for a fuller, plumper, more youthful external vaginal appearance
Labiaplasty, hoodectomies and lipoinfiltration can also be performed as one component of our ever-popular mommy makeover, a combination procedure that provides a more comprehensive full body rejuvenation following pregnancy and childbirth.
Feel free to ask us for additional information about cosmetic enhancement of the vaginal area during your consultation.
